The first tour operator carrier announced a complete cessation of flights in the withdrawal of all its aircraft from Russia. They became Royal Flight – the airline of the tour operator Coral Travel and its division Sunmar. According to Izvestia, which, in turn, cite sources in the airline, the airline operated its last flights in early March, to Egypt and Hong Kong, after which almost all aircraft were transferred to parking lots at airports in Turkey and Egypt.
While the carrier does not know how long the pause will last. “Everything will depend on the decisions of the Russian government on aircraft maintenance,” the sources say. They also add that Royal Flight has stopped all flights, as expected due to the imposed sanctions and the risk of aircraft seizure by foreign lessors. Such a decision could have been made by the Turkish shareholders of the group, which includes the airline.
The details are as follows – in total, there are 13 Boeing aircraft in the Royal Flight fleet. Almost all of them were transferred to the parking lots in the airports of Turkey and Egypt from March 5 to 7. Only two aircraft are at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport (Boeing 737 and Boeing 757). At the same time, two aircraft (narrow-body Boeing 737 and wide-body Boeing 777) will soon depart from Antalya to the Spanish airports of Castellón and Teruel at the request of the lessor. Both aircraft are leased from the Irish company AerCap, which, according to the decision of the European Union, must take all the aircraft from Russian carriers by the end of March.
By the way, at the end of 2021, Royal Flight became the 13th Russian airline in terms of passenger traffic, transporting 1.49 million passengers per year (+63% by 2020).
