the two countries of the Old World are Spain and France. This data was presented by Eurostat.
In figures, it looks like this: in total, about 597 thousand hotels were counted in the European Union, which have 28.1 million places for tourists. Of these, the leading countries account for approximately equally – 5.1 million seats each. France and Italy are followed by Spain with 3.8 million placements or 13% of the total) and Germany (3.5 million, 12%).
At the same time, the number of accommodations and hotels did not decrease much over the covid. The number of hotels decreased by 3%, in 2019 there were 618 thousand of them, and accommodation places – by 2% – from 28.8 million.
However, there have been changes with the national composition. In 2021, almost three-quarters or 75% of tourists in the EU also came from EU countries. To this we must add 16% of tourists from European countries that have not yet entered the EU or left it – like the UK. And only 8% came from non-European tourists – a decrease of almost two times compared to pre-Covid times. These are mainly the States and Canada – they account for 4%.
