Russian, Italian and British tourists began to “fight for the championship” in the hotels of Sharm el-Sheikh. At the same time, the number of Russians in the resort is sufficient, although it cannot be compared with pre-crisis times. Such statistics were announced to the local media by experts from the Egyptian Federation of Tourism Chambers. “These figures are nothing compared to the number of tourists that Sharm el-Sheikh received before the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, but are acceptable under the current circumstances,” the experts said.
At the same time, they emphasize that that the only obstacle standing in the way of mass Russian tour operators sending tourists to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada is the transport problem, that is, an acute shortage of transportation capacities. “Most airlines are still reluctant to operate flights to or from Russia due to the economic sanctions imposed on Moscow,” says Sameh Abdel Moneim, member of the South Sinai Chamber of Hospitality Companies, part of the Egyptian Federation of Tourism Chambers.
< p> At the same time, representatives of the Chamber state that the average occupancy of hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh currently ranges from 50 to 60%. “Italian and British tourists are now the most present in the city, as well as a large number of tourists from Russia and Kazakhstan. At the moment, Italy is in the lead in the supply of tourists – the flow of tourists from Italy to Sharm el-Sheikh has largely returned to what it was before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic,” the expert explained.
