Russians took second place in the top 10 foreigners buying real estate in condominiums in Thailand. Such amazing statistics for the first six months of 2022 were announced to the local media by the Thailand Property Information Center (REIC). According to experts, condominiums in Thailand are attractive to foreign citizens because in Thailand foreigners are allowed to own 49% of apartments in any condominium building. The remaining 51% must be owned by Thais. At the same time, in the first half of 2022, 4,433 condominiums in Thailand were transferred to foreign ownership.
As a result, the top three buyers are as follows:
- China – 25.3% of all apartments purchased or more than 2 thousand units.
- Russia – 3.2% or 263 units
- USA 2.8% or 228 units
Following Great Britain and Germany – each accounts for 1.5-2% or about 160-170 units. France, India, Taiwan, Australia and Canada are also in the top ten.
The most popular places where foreigners like to buy apartments include Bangkok, Chonburi (Pattaya), Samut Prakan, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Prachuap Khiri Khan (Hua Hin), Rayong, Trat and Phetchaburi. In general, by the way, foreigners bought apartments worth 22 billion baht (about 36 billion rubles).
