Cyprus continues a major scandal, very unpleasant for the Russian residents of Cyprus and our tourists who have “sneaked” onto the island. The Larnaca police released a citizen of Ukraine, who was detained for a knife attack on Russians, to freedom before trial. The trial is to take place on September 19, and all this time the inadequate citizen will be free.
The attack itself took place on August 23, when Russian activists gathered in honor of the Russian Flag Day. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the attack – the swearing “activist” with a 20-centimeter knife in her hand was driven away from her victims with flagpoles held by the protesters. Then the police arrived and detained the attacker.
However, as it turned out, the Ukrainian woman was released the next day. The trial is scheduled for September 19th. “Yes, the incident was registered, the woman was released pending trial,” Izvestia quoted a report from the Larnaca police. At the same time, experts note that a citizen of Ukraine is unlikely to need to hide – the police “tend to look for only everyday subtext in what happened.” According to the comments of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in Cyprus, they fear that an inadequate attacker may make other attempts to attack.
