The Council of the European Union should stop the tourist visas issued to Russian citizens, and at the same time impose a ban on the issuance of new visas to them. Such a Russophobic statement by the European MP from Estonia Urmas Paet was published by the Estonian media.
“Russian tourists traveling to the countries of the EU and the Schengen zone are currently inappropriate. The Council of the European Union may decide to terminate the validity of tourist visas currently issued and not to issue any new ones. The maintenance of the special operation by the Russians must come at a price. A few months ago, restrictions were introduced on air communication between Russia and Europe. One of the points of this was that Russian citizens should not travel to Europe. The same should apply to other modes of transport,” the official said.
An Estonian MEP said that this does not mean that Russian citizens should completely stop traveling. “Uganda and Ethiopia have just confirmed their great friendship with Russia. These are good places for beach holidays and shopping,” he added sarcastically and noted that Russian tourists should be banned from entering the EU and the Schengen area for the purpose of recreation and shopping.
