High prices threaten bankruptcy of hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars across Europe. So much so that the European hotel association Hotrec called on European energy ministers to take immediate action to reduce energy prices for the hospitality industry.
This letter was sent to EU energy ministers. It states that the costs of all these and other enterprises in the sector for electricity increased by 200-600%. As a result, they may start to go bankrupt if precautions are not taken and energy prices are not reduced.
Hotrec also drew attention to the importance of the accommodation sector in the economy. “Most – 90% of the enterprises operating in the tourism sector throughout Europe are small enterprises. Their number is 2 ml, and these enterprises employ 12 million people. This problem needs to be addressed immediately,” the association urged.
