Operation Summer 2022 begins in Spain: tourists will be looked after by the 45,000th troops of the police and the National Guard

From July 1, the Spanish authorities will launch the operation “Summer 2022”. According to the plan, thousands of troops of the National Police and the Civil Guard will look after tourists in crowded places. The program will end on August 31st. The corresponding statement was published by the Spanish Ministry of Internal Affairs on June 10.

The message specified that, first of all, popular tourist destinations – the autonomous communities of Andalusia, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, the Valencian Community, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, Murcia – will be under vigilant supervision. At the same time, in a statement, the ministry clarified that the program will last longer in the Balearic Islands than in other resort regions. The police will actively monitor tourists until September 30.

Secretary of State for Security Rafael Perez issued an executive order Wednesday, citing a decline in the incidence of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, this has contributed to the gradual lifting of specific restrictions and controls that have affected tourism activities, which, nevertheless, allows for a sustainable recovery of the sector at a similar level or higher than in pre-COVID 2019.

“Thus, the purpose of the instruction is to improve the safety of citizens in these nine autonomous communities in order to facilitate the influx of tourists with a device that allows enhanced surveillance and preventive control at urban and intercity communication routes, stations, ports, airports, hotels, beaches and campsites, as well as on the occasion of any event involving a large crowd of people,” the statement said.

In the nine autonomous communities where Operation Summer 2022 will take place, the national police will be reinforced by 2.442 other agents . They will join the almost 22,000 troops that are already guarding the safety of tourists in these territories.

According to the ministry, another 1,187 troops will join the army of 19,399. “Overall, Operation Summer 2021 is supported by the deployment of 45,028 troops in the territorial scope, 24,442 national police officers and 20,586 civil guards,” the agency also noted in a statement.

In addition, the operation will also complement the Safe Tourism Plan , which will soon be launched by the authorities throughout the country so that local and foreign tourists do not suffer from criminal activities during their travels and stay in the country.

Recall that on June 3, the Spanish Ministry of Health lifted all entry restrictions for all travelers arriving in Spain from any of the countries of the European Union and the Schengen area. According to the ministry, this means that tourists do not need to present any evidence of covid status to enter the country.
