Pegasus announced the consequences of turning off Mir cards in Turkey for Russian tourists

The decision of Turkish banks to turn off the card of the Russian payment system “Mir” will not have a negative impact on tour operators and organized travelers who can be content with beach holidays and hotel meals. The shutdown of domestic “plastic” will hit, first of all, individual tourists and crowds of emigrants who have flooded the republic since February. Orkhan Sankar, coordinator of Pegas Touristik for the CIS countries, spoke in more detail about the consequences of turning off Mir cards.

Mir cards were more often used to pay for individual rides. With changes in the work of banks, individual tourists will purchase package tours and pay for them in Russia. No risks. On the other hand, those who decide to rest in Turkey on their own will face difficulties. To pay for meals in cafes/restaurants, purchases of goods in stores or sightseeing tours on the spot, Russians used Mir cards. But now it might be a problem. We advise you to take a large amount of cash with you for all these expenses,” he explained.

Recall that the United States threatened Turkish banks with secondary sanctions due to work with the Russian payment system Mir. Of the five banks in Turkey that previously cooperated with the national “plastic”, today you can withdraw cash or pay for purchases in the devices of only three banks – Ziraat Bankasi, VakifBank and Halkbank.
