Russian tourist in Turkey suddenly realized why Turks eat chestnuts

A domestic traveler went to Turkey and found out two reasons why Turks eat roasted chestnuts. He wrote about this in his channel on Yandex.Zen.

“Firstly, they are so accustomed to from childhood – this is cheap and affordable food. And secondly, they believe that they contain a lot of vitamins. Therefore, even adults do not mind eating baked chestnuts from time to time, ”he said.

A tourist unexpectedly found out that roasted chestnuts are a popular street food that can be bought at bus stops, markets, and even on the sidewalk. Vendors deliver them on small carts: the sale of this delicious food on the Turkish streets is on stream. In Turkey, chestnuts are cooked on a saj, a special frying pan that heats up to a high temperature so that the chestnuts are well baked.

The gastronomic phenomenon seen reminded a compatriot of the Russian reality of the 90s of the last century, when grandmothers roasted and sold seeds . Chestnuts, like sunflower seeds, are poured into “paper bags”, weighed, and then handed over warm to the buyer’s hands. The price of one bag weighing 100 gr. is 15 Turkish liras (60 rubles at the current exchange rate).

Turks believe that regular use contributes to maintaining health and well-being. As for the taste, the Turks themselves claim that “chestnuts are like nothing else”, while many of the Russian tourists compare them to boiled potatoes with a sweet note. Further, the tourist blogger reflected and said that he was not ready to replace the usual roasted seeds with chestnuts.
