Tourists in Thailand were warned about the risks of flash flooding by the Meteorological kingdom department (TMD). The culprit of the situation is the monsoon, or rather two monsoon streams at once, one of which moves south to the Gulf of Thailand, and the second north through the upper part of Malaysia. Streams are accompanied by heavy rains, storms and, accordingly, the risk of sudden flooding.
The situation is especially dangerous in the provinces of Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhonshri Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. Everyone there is warned to be careful, prepare for a sudden descent of water, floods, waterlogging and landslides. Recall that in one of these provinces such resorts as Koh Samui, Krabi, etc. are located.
Also, tourists were also warned that the waves in the Gulf of Thailand would be strong, reaching two meters in height and up to three meters during thunderstorms. Sailors and tourist pleasure boats are advised not to go out to sea.
Thunderstorms will last until at least December 14, the department adds. Recall that earlier a warning was published for Bangkok, where abnormally cold weather is expected. And also for Phuket, the most popular among Russians – the Old Town can get into the flood zone there. Read the details at this link.
