The record growth in tourist demand for Antalya, multiplied by the problems of hotels with staff, may lead to the fact that during the high season there will simply be nowhere to accommodate tourists in the resorts of Turkey. This is exactly what the German travel market expert Karlheinz Kögel, the founder of L'Tur, a company specializing in last minute vacations, and the owner of HLX, a company specializing in package tours, voiced.
First of all, German tourists, demand which to Turkey in the first post-COVID year jumped by 480% (!). It should be noted that German tourists have already ousted Russian tourists from the first place, the number of which is limited by air sanctions.
“Flights to some destinations have exceeded hotel capacity. At the same time, hotels that laid off their employees after the pandemic are having difficulty finding staff to work in the summer season. If this trend continues longer, some places will not be able to find hotel rooms in July and August. In summer, passenger traffic will exceed the capacity of hotel beds,” the German expert voiced his forecast.
At the same time, Mr. Koegel said that according to the results of his companies as a whole, they will leave behind the results of 2019 in eight months of 2022. At the same time, Turkey leads in terms of growth rates. “Compared to 2019, the number of our guests increased by 43% and our revenue increased by 81%. For holidays in Turkey, primarily in Antalya – explosive demand – by 480% compared to last year. It is followed by Mallorca with 140% and Greece with 74%,” concluded the German tour operator.
