< /p> Explosive growth was shown by Russian tourists in the official statistics of Thailand. They ranked second among the main suppliers of tourists, overtaking even the rapidly returning Chinese tourists.
As stated in the Thai media, citing official statistics provided by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, in just 3.5 months – from January 1 to April 10 – 614 thousand Russian tourists visited the country. Moreover, about a third of this number – 202 thousand fell in January, mainly during the New Year period. Another 185,000 arrived in February, 189,000 in March, and 48,000 in the first ten days of April.
At the same time, the Russians were in second place. Most of the tourists to Thailand were “delivered” by neighboring Malaysia, from where short-term tourists arrive, 912 thousand. The rapidly returning Chinese market is still slightly inferior to the Russians – 614 thousand of them arrived in Thailand. All other main markets are also Asia, another 470 thousand tourists arrived from South Korea and 361,000 from India.
As the experts added, if the Russians continue to arrive at the same pace, there is every chance to reach the “pre-Covid” figures of the tourist flow. In 2019, the country received 1.5 million Russian tourists.
Recall that Antalya also broke the record due to Russian tourists, having received its first million tourists already in early April. Tourists from Russia remain in the first place for Antalya – their number amounted to 30% of the total tourist flow, Germany is in second with 24%, and Great Britain is in third.
