With a special paint with a water-repellent layer, they decided to fight pissing tourists in the “bohemian” Soho district in the very center of famous London. According to the city council of Westminster, the area in which Soho is located, the paint “presents an unpleasant surprise to criminals.” However, this is only one of the measures that the authorities intend to take as part of the Don't Pee in Soho campaign, there will be other measures. The company was initiated by local residents, who said that the constant smell of urine from tourists pissing in all the lanes wears them out.
As for the paint, it will cover the most popular places among “party goers”. The fact is that the Soho area is known for its nightclubs and other entertainment – which, alas, also attract those who like to piss in the alley. By Christmas party season, paint had been applied to most of the areas that had to be cleaned particularly hard, and the city council said there were five more areas to be painted.
As the city council assures, the paint creates a water-repellent layer, as a result, the amateur urinates himself in the spray of his “product” – and “remains wet.” Taking into account that it is necessary to spend almost 950 thousand pounds sterling per year on cleaning the streets, all means are good, the authorities are sure.
This is not the only way to fight “pissing boys” – the authorities have created a special “Don't pee in Soho” campaign. Within its framework, tourists, for example, are warned about fines if they are caught. Information packs will be offered to entertainment venues in the area to share posters with this information in the restrooms and on social media, also encouraging tourists to empty their bladders before they leave the club.
“More people are having fun in Soho and the West End, but not all of them behave with dignity. The original paint is one of the steps we are taking to discourage people from urinating in a public place or on private property,” Claire Aisha Less, Deputy Head and Cabinet Minister for Communities and Public Defense, told the British media. She noted that violators will also face a “huge fine” – this is the last thing people who come to have fun want. “I feel personally insulted when I have to walk past men pissing on the street, especially at night, and it's still not safe. If you were to wade through streams of urine every evening to get to your front door, you would approve of any action,” added Lucy, a local resident.
Don't Pee in Soho! also suggests a “carrot” for tourists that they will try to be conscious – and in general, very useful for tourists. It also includes the creation of an interactive map showing the location and opening hours of all free toilets in the area. At times, such information is priceless for a tourist – unless, of course, he is one of those who like to piss in the alley.
