From the beginning of 2023, Iran, located on the opposite side of the Persian Gulf from the UAE, and Russia will cancel group visas for their tourists. The corresponding agreement was signed between Tehran and Moscow within the framework of the second meeting of the Iranian-Russian Technical Committee for Tourism. The signing statement was announced by Leyla Ajdari, head of the Department of Marketing and Tourism Development of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Iran, during the second meeting of the Iranian-Russian Technical Committee on Tourism.
“Based on what was previously signed and agreed upon by the governments of Iran and Russia… from January 1, 2023, citizens of the Russian Federation and Iran will not need a group visa if they are going to travel to one of the countries in tourist groups of 5 to 50 people for a period of 15 days,” said Ms. Adjari.
We are talking about the fact that in 2017 the Foreign Ministers of Iran and the Russian Federation signed an agreement between the governments of the two countries on the abolition of group visas for their citizens. The agreement was supposed to come into force, however, in June 2021, but the project was never implemented.
Recall that in order to attract Russian tourists, Iran is expanding the number of flights to Russia. However, so far the prices have been quite high: the flights of the Iranian carrier Mahan Air are announced at a price of 20,000 one way.
