The Deputy Minister predicted a sharp rise in the price of air tickets in Russia, naming new prices

Without additional measures, a sharp increase in the price of air tickets in Russia is possible in 2023. Igor Chalik, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, stated this at a meeting of the Ministry of Economic Development on preparations for the tourist season in 2023. According to him, against the backdrop of a reduction in subsidies, ticket prices for domestic flights may increase by 15-30% compared to 2022.

“This year, the allocation of subsidies by analogy with 2022 has not yet been approved: as you remember, it was 100 billion rubles. In this regard, we expect, perhaps, there will be an increase in the cost of transportation from about 15% to 30%. Accordingly, it will be possible to reduce the number of flights,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Last year, Russian carriers received 100 billion rubles. subsidies to cover operating expenses for flights within Russia under the sanctions. This year, the envisaged subsidies will be cut by almost four times – to 25.3 billion rubles. “The last time the Federal Air Transport Agency announced a competitive selection for providing subsidies for domestic flights in January, the subsidy is provided for flights from November 2022 to March 2023,” the expert added.

At the same time, Deputy Head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Vladimir Poteshkin said, that in 2023 it is planned to carry almost 82 million passengers across Russia. “Three flight subsidy programs continue to work, but the reduction in budgetary funds that is currently being carried out has already led to a reduction of 10,612 thousand flights,” he added.
