A technical malfunction on board an Airbus flying from Thailand to Singapore has caused a fire and panic among tourists. The plane made an emergency landing. The incident was reported by The Thaiger.
The incident occurred last Tuesday on the flight of Scoot, a Singaporean low-cost airline, a subsidiary of the country's national carrier Singapore Airlines. The Airbus A321 took off from Bangkok at 15:56 pm and was supposed to arrive in Singapore at 19:15 pm, but was forced to return to the Thai capital. But first, the liner made at least four circles near the island of Ko Si Chang in the south of the kingdom. The decision to return was taken as a precaution, representatives said.
It is known that there were 230 passengers and eight crew members on board the aircraft. After landing in Bangkok at 5:09 pm local time, refreshing drinks were handed out to frightened tourists. After the malfunction was fixed, the plane took off from Suvarnabhumi Airport and arrived in Singapore at 22:26 pm.
Eyewitnesses filmed a smoky cabin on their phone cameras, and one of them, who wished to remain anonymous, said the following: 30 minutes after takeoff the pilot announced a ventilation problem and the need to turn back. “There was a smell of dampness, as if something was leaking,” he also recalled.
After the incident, representatives of Scoot apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers. “The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority. We will continue to provide assistance to our customers where possible,” the airline said.
However, this incident is not the first case of a fire on a Scoot flight in recent times. In January, two tourists were injured on a plane taking off from Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport to Singapore. The cause of the injuries was the ignition of an overheated external battery, which belonged to one of the injured passengers. The fire was extinguished and the ship returned to the airport runway. “The owner of the power bank and his companion, who received minor burns to their fingers, received medical assistance. We are rescheduling the flight and will provide accommodation and meals to affected passengers, ”the airline said at the time.
