The joy of opening Finland for Russian tourists was overshadowed: everything turned out to be not so simple

“A fly in the ointment” was added to tourists who were rejoicing at the seemingly opened admission to Finland. We are talking about Russian rules for closing the border – a travel agent blogger assured readers on her channel in Yandex.Zen. According to her statement, the border is still closed from Russia.

First, the blogger cites the news, from which “all tourist chats and news publics began to boil” the primary source on the website of the Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs: “Entry restrictions at the external borders of Finland associated with the coronavirus pandemic end on June 30th. This means that third-country travelers arriving in Finland are no longer required to have vaccination or COVID-19 test certificates, nor to be tested for coronavirus at border crossings.”

However, the author was quick to disappoint tourists, which is a big BUT: the Russian border is still closed for travel! There is a Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of March 27, 2020 N 763-r “On the temporary restriction of traffic through automobile, railway, pedestrian, river and mixed checkpoints across the state border of the Russian Federation” and it says that you can leave only with good reasons. “You can still go to Finland if you have a visa only if there are good reasons: a residence permit, work, relatives or treatment in a Finnish spa hotel,” she says.

In the comments, however, they noted that in In reality, no one asked tourists for tests on either side of the border. And also – that according to the statement of tour operators, individual tourists will be allowed.
