The most closed country in the world may soon open again for Russian tourists. I'm talking, of course, about North Korea. At least, according to official data from the Primorsky Territory Tourism Agency, the authorities of the region and the authorities of North Korea are developing an agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism. This means that the borders between our countries will be reopened.
We note that before the covid pandemic, Russian tourists wishing to visit this exotic country – at least residents of Vladivostok – could come to the DPRK only as part of a tourist group, so as an independent visit to the country is impossible. The trips were organized by Russian travel agencies, which received accreditation from the DPRK Foreign Ministry. However, since 2020, the country has “closed for covid” and has not yet reopened. Flights between Vladivostok and Pyongyang have also been suspended.
According to the Primorsky Territory Tourism Agency, the agreement implies “exchange of information on existing tourist routes, development of new ones, interaction in the development of tourism infrastructure, organization of events in the field of tourism, including number of industry exhibitions and conferences, as well as other areas of cooperation in the field of tourism”. The agency plans to sign an agreement with the Department of Foreign Affairs of the General Administration of Tourism of the DPRK. The date of the possible signing has not been specified.
