The period of visa-free stay in Thailand for Russians and citizens of about 60 other countries has been reduced from 45 to 30 days since April 1. The local government did not extend the temporary visa exemption that came into force on October 1, 2022 and was valid until March 31, 2023, the Tourism Authority of Thailand reported.
Recall that until October 1, 2022, Russians could stay in Thailand without a visa up to 30 days. However, as part of a policy to attract more tourists, this period has been extended to 45 days. The visa exemption was valid until March 31, 2023 with the possibility of extension by a separate decree. However, the government of the country was unable to sign it, and now the rules for visiting Thailand by Russians have again become the same.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand tried to extend the 45-day visa, but ran into bureaucratic problems. The country's government recently resigned, and until the new elections in May, it works in a limited mode, without the right and opportunity to sign the necessary documents. The situation is expected to improve in May-June.
The reduction in the period of visa-free stay in Thailand should not affect tourists who come to the country for a short vacation. However, this will cause problems for people who work remotely and plan to stay in Thailand longer.
