Tourism in Germany put a black mark

German tourism black labeled

The recovery of the German tourism market continues to slow down – the level of 2019 was not reached either in June or July, and in July the volumes only decreased: in fact, German tourism was given a black mark. The trend of short-term bookings and the “air chaos” factor, which is extremely risky for German tourism, and spoils the rest of German tourists, also remain in force.

According to statistics provided by the German business and tourism magazine fvw based on data from the travel agency Technologies and Services (TATS), in July the turnover of travel agencies fell. They reached 92% of June 2019 volumes, but the same figure was already only 82% in July.

“The reason for the slowdown in revenue recovery may be due to the continued trend of last-minute bookings,” the publication notes. As a result, even if the number of bookings approaches the level of “pre-Covid” years, this clearly does not apply to the income of travel agencies.

In general, according to experts, total sales that lagged behind the “pre-Covid” level in June by 34 % fell below 30% in July. Moreover, in some “niches” the fall is even more obvious – for example, the publication highlights cruises, where sales in June were 40% of the 2019 level. In July, this figure is about 33%.

At the same time, the income of the cruise sector increased significantly compared to last year – by as much as 249%. However, until 2019 they fall short by 14%. As for total revenue, it exceeded the level of 2021, when covid restrictions were still in effect, by 131%. However, by 2019 it decreased by 18.3%.
