Everyone approaches planning travel in their own way, but there are also common items on the to-do list. The Sun has told tourists 10 things they should always do at home before traveling abroad to avoid problems when they return.
Different people prepare for vacation in different ways. Some people like to clean the whole house before leaving, while others just need to know that the windows are closed. A study of 2,000 adults revealed the most important things tourists do to prepare for a trip, including washing dishes and emptying trash cans.
According to the report, 67% of travelers walk through a house with a tentative list before leaving, checking whether everything is done. Typically, this includes turning off the lights and heating, checking electrical appliances, cleaning the refrigerator, and watering the plants.
However, upon returning home, one in five Britons discovers that something has gone wrong. In 54% of cases, this is a broken pipe, in 41% – a defrosted refrigerator, and in another 27% – moldy food. This means that many still forget about some things from the list. Six out of ten people say that they would definitely use the technology to help with the preparation of the house for the holidays, if it existed.
So, here are the top 10 things to do before leaving for a vacation:
- Make sure all windows are closed
- Take out the trash
- Wash dishes
- Make sure all lights are off
- Turn off the heating and turn off the water
- Pack your passports and other important documents in one place
- Turn off electrical appliances
- Water the plants
- Empty the refrigerator
- Wash clothes
